Journal of Genetic Counseling 2008 Update
Manuscript submission and processing has remained stable.
- Over the past year (2008), JOGC editorial office received:
- 104 new submissions; (original research and professional issue manuscripts)
- 125 manuscripts were sent out for revision
- 106 revised manuscripts were received and sent out for a second reviewed
- 257 invitations to review were sent out and 170 reviewers completed reviews for the Journal
- Average number of days from submission to first decision is 39 (time to publication varies dependent upon time taken to revise)
- Approximately ½ of submissions were submitted by USA authors; ¼ were from Canada, Australia and UK; ¼ from other countries.
- The Journal published a great review article on Cowden Syndrome by Rob Pilarski – this increases the visibility of the journal.
- The same issue features an important piece by Alexandra Stern documenting the birth of our profession
- In 2008, an ISI application was submitted to obtain an impact factor for the Journal

Perspectives in Genetic Counseling Update
Jessica Mandell has completed her term as Editor of Perspectives in Genetic Counseling after five years of dedicated service. In her five year as Editor, Jessica helped Perspectives grow significantly:
- Expanded content
- Developed new navigable online format
- Perspectives being used in our PR efforts and in teaching future genetic counselors
