Genetic Counseling in a New Era of Genetic Medicine: Mutation-Based Treatment
The NSGC Education Committee and Board of Directors are pleased to co-sponsor the online course, Genetic Counseling in a New Era of Genetic Medicine: Mutation-Based Treatment, with PTC Therapeutics, Inc. The 11-session webinar explores ways in which genetic counselors may encounter genetic medicine now and in the near future, from drug development through genotyping, clinical trials and potential new treatments.
Objectives
After participating in Genetic Counseling in a New Era of Genetic Medicine, attendees will be able to:
- Recognize the availability of current and future clinical trials for treatment of genetic diseases based on mutation type, and the necessity of genotyping for all patients.
- Identify the principal aspects of therapeutic drug development and clinical trials.
- Describe mechanism of action and primary clinical aspects of ataluren (formerly PTC124).
- Discuss clinical utility, appropriate testing methodologies, and patient impact of current mutation-specific treatment trials as well as ongoing research for future therapies.
Course Format
Genetic Counseling in a New Era of Genetic Medicine consists of 11 pre-recorded presentations that include the presenter’s lecture, fully-synchronized to his or her slide presentation. All presentations will be posted online for access and review. For instructions on how to access the presentations after completing your registration, please click here .
Genetic Counseling in a New Era of Genetic Medicine offers a convenient format, allowing participants to listen to presentations on their own schedule, at any time of day. The format supports increased information retention through a self-directed process that allows participants to learn in their own time at their own pace.
Participants interested in earning CEUs for participation in the Genetic Counseling in a New Era of Genetic Medicine will be required to complete and pass a quiz for each session.
Presentation Availability
Access to the presentations will remain available to all registered participants through June 28, 2011. You can return to the presentations at any time before that date.
