2008 Call for Abstracts

National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) invites you to submit your abstracts for the 27th NSGC Annual Education Conference, October 24-28, 2008 in Los Angeles, California. Don't miss your opportunity to share your knowledge and contribute to the future of your profession. Please note the following rules and instructions:

We are looking for abstracts that are of interest to the genetic counseling profession and related fields. Abstracts will be accepted beginning March 21, 2008 and ending May 16, 2008. A link to the online submission system will be posted at this site once the Call for Abstracts opens.

  1. Abstracts will be accepted electronically using the Abstract Submission Form through Friday May 16, 2008 at 5:00 pm EST. Students and non-members, as well as full members, are encouraged to submit abstracts. Monetary awards will be presented for best full member and student member abstracts.
  2. There is no limit to the number of abstracts submitted by one author. At least one author must be present at the conference to present accepted work. Student-members’ submissions must be sponsored by a full member of NSGC (this would usually be the directed study project supervisor).
  3. Abstracts should include the statement of the question, hypothesis/purpose, model/methods, results and conclusion of the project. Quality case reports and abstracts on theory-based topics will be considered. Do not include tables or graphs. For information on criteria on which abstracts will be judged, refer to Perspectives in Genetic Counseling, 23(4): 11 or the How the Abstract Committee Reviews Abstracts section of the NSGC Web site.
  4. The abstract cannot exceed a total word count of 300 words. This does not include the title, author(s), or institution. Abstracts exceeding this word limit will not be reviewed.
  5. The Abstract Submission Form includes specific instructions for the title, author(s), institutions and abstract body format. To submit an abstract for a contributed paper platform or poster presentation, please select “Platform/Poster” as the format type.
  6. Accepted abstracts will be selected for either a contributed paper platform or poster presentation. Platform presentations will be approximately 15 minutes in length, with 12 minutes scheduled for the presentation and 3 minutes scheduled for questions and discussion. Posters will be displayed on a board in a space 4' wide x 4' high.
  7. Authors may check the NSGC Web site beginning Monday, June 16, 2008 for a list of accepted abstracts.
  8. Abstracts cannot be withdrawn after July 16, 2008. Instructions for withdrawing an abstract are located in the abstract instruction area on the NSGC Web site.
