Submit this printable Membership Application Form and Mail along with your one-time only, non-refundable application fee of US$15. After your application is reviewed, you will receive an Annual Dues and Membership Information Form as well as a Code of Ethics. After your dues have been received and processed, you will be awarded all the benefits of your membership category.

Undergraduate students and other individuals interested in the field of genetic counseling are encouraged to Subscribe to our newsletter, Perspectives in Genetic Counseling, in lieu of membership.

Membership Categories

Membership: There are four categories of membersip: Full, Associate, Student, and Emeritus. Please read our membership guidelines below, as described in our bylaws, to determine your appropriate membership status.

BYLAWS

Article 1. Membership

Section 1.2. Full Membership. Full membership shall be extended to : (i) any person who holds a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in human genetics from a program established for the training of genetic counselors and/or genetic associates, or (ii) any person who has a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a related field such as nursing, social work or public health and has had a broad range of clinical genetics training and whose primary responsibility for at least three years prior to the date of such person’s application has been genetic counseling, or (iii) is certified in genetic counseling by the American Board of Medical Genetics and/or the American Board of Genetic Counseling, or (iv) for a period of two years from the date these Bylaws are adopted, any person who holds only a baccalaureate degree in any field and who otherwise satisfies the criteria enumerated in section 1.2 (ii). Full members may attend all meetings of members, vote, hold office, and serve on the Board of Directors, committees, as a Regional Representative and as Editor of the newsletter or journal.

Section 1.3. Associate Membership. Associate membership shall be extended to all applicants who are health care professionals, and to all applicants whose interests focus on genetic counseling and who are not eligible for or who do not desire full membership or student membership. Associate members have all privileges of full members except they may not vote, or serve on the Board of Directors, or as Chair of a committee.

Section 1.4. Student Membership. Student membership shall be extended to students enrolled in a graduate degree genetic counseling program or tract. Full members who become full-time students are eligible for student membership while in school. Student members shall have all the privileges of associate membership with the exception that students may not have direct posting access to the general listserv.

Section 1.5. Emeritus Membership. Emeritus membership shall be extended to all full member applicants who have retired and have been members in good standing of the NSGC for a minimum of 10 years. Emeritus members shall receive: Perspectives in Genetic Counseling and the minutes of the annual NSGC membership meeting, but are not voting members. Emeritus members may serve on standing or ad hoc committees.

Annual Dues

Upon review of your credentials, you will be asked to submit annual dues.
NSGC memberships are based on the calendar year.

New Members
New Members joining will pay dues in their first year of membership as follows:

*The New Member Special Rate is valid starting July 1 of the first year of membership through December 31 of the next year, making the initial dues payment valid for up to 18 months, dependent on the join date of new member. After this initial membership period, the member will be invoiced on the annual dues cycle.
