Robin L. Bennett
Former President

2003 president Robin L. Bennett is Senior Genetic Counselor and Clinic Manager for the University of Washington Medical Genetics Clinic in Seattle.

As President of NSGC, Allain is responsible for leading the association and serving as its chief spokesperson. Her areas of expertise include the counseling and treatment of metabolic and lysosomal storage disorders such as Fabry disease, Gaucher and MPS1. She can also comment on the NSGC’s support of the genetic nondiscrimination bill, and she frequently lectures on ethical issues in genetic counseling.

Allain has been with the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital since 1998. A graduate of Northwestern University with a Master’s of Science in Genetic Counseling, Allain is certified in genetic counseling by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. In addition to her counseling roles, Allain is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatric/Genetics at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she provides clinical supervision to medical students, pediatric residents, and genetic counseling graduate students.

She has been a member of NSGC since 1991, and has been active in the development of the Society¹s educational programs serving as co-chair of the Annual Education Conference in 2000 and as chair of the Annual Education Conference Subcommittee from 2000 - 2002. She is a member of the Metabolism and Familial Cancer Risk special interest groups, and has served as a regional representative on the NSGC’s board of directors.

She has spoken and published extensively on topics related to her work in prenatal diagnosis, pediatric genetics, Huntington’s disease and inherited cancers. She co-authored a chapter on “Genetic Counseling and Testing for Breast Cancer” in the 5th edition of Cancer of the Breast in 2002.
