New Research Shows Genetic Testing

WHAT: A new study suggests that genetic testing can identify a clear risk of Alzheimer's disease.

WHEN: Tuesday, November 12, 2002
WHY: The REVEAL Study (Risk EValuation and Education for ALzheimer's Disease) evaluated the impact of providing apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotyping and counseling as part of a risk assessment for adult off spring of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. (APOE is the only confirmed susceptibility gene for late-onset Alzheimer's disease.)

The National Society of Genetic Counselors is a non-profit organization, consisting of approximately 2,000 genetic counselors.
