H.R. 7083, “Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act of 2018,” Introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives

Yesterday, H.R. 7083, the “Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act of 2018,” was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill was sponsored by U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Minnesota) and U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-Iowa) and developed by working closely with NSGC.  A press release is available here.

The bill would authorize the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to recognize certified genetic counselors as healthcare providers and would improve Medicare beneficiaries’ accessibility to genetic counselors.

The Executive Office will provide information regarding how you can get involved in our grassroots advocacy efforts around the bill in this Friday’s issue of The Advocate, and in specific communications that will be sent to you about contacting your Members of Congress to request their support of the bill.

Thank you in advance for your support and involvement in advocating for H.R. 7083 and in improving access to the valuable services you provide to patients and their families.
