The National Society of Genetic Counselors Releases Statement Regarding Kansas Jury's Conviction of Dr. George Tiller's Murderer
January 29, 2010
The National Society of Genetic Counselors commends the Kansas jury’s decision to convict Scott Roeder of the premeditated, first-degree murder of Dr. George Tiller. “The jury’s swift, decisive verdict condemns the appalling and tragic nature of the act. While personal opinions may vary on abortion, the jury’s decision sends a clear message that this crime and other tactics that terrorize health care providers will not be tolerated by society,” said Elizabeth Kearney, President of the NSGC. Dr. Tiller compassionately supported women who faced complicated medical issues by providing safe, legal, and appropriate medical care.
