This online course is designed to assist genetic counselors in maximizing technology in their clinical practice. Lectures will cover a variety of topics including telegenetics, test selection, social media, patient outcome measurement and the electronic health record.
After completing this 10.12 hour course, learners will be able to:
- Recognize types of telecommunication networks: equipment and connectivity, variety of existing telegenetic services, guidelines, how-to manuals, and resources.
- Address barriers to telegenetic services: human factors, billing and reimbursement, licensure and credentialing, and infrastructure.
- Identify steps in establishing a telegenetic service.

The National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) has approved this program for up to 1.01 CEUs or 10.12 Category 1 Contact Hours through 05/31/2018. CEUs earned through this program will be accepted by ABGC as Category 1 CEUs for purposes of certification and recertification. Individuals must be certified at the time of participation in the activity in order to count towards recertification.
