The Psychiatric Disorders SIG aims to develop and advance the field of psychiatric genetic counseling by promoting awareness within the NSGC, by providing education, and by encouraging dialogue between SIG members and other groups such as researchers, patient advocacy groups, other healthcare provider groups, and affected individuals and families.

The Psychiatric Disorders SIG, created in 1998, is now maintained by members of the NSGC who provide genetic counseling for psychiatric disorders, work on research studies related to psychiatric genetics, or the interests of counselors who provide services for or are interested in issues related to psychiatric genetics. The SIG serves the interests of counselors who provide services for, or who are interested in disorders including: schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, major depression, ADHD, autism, anxiety disorders, panic disorders, alcoholism, addiction, OCD, and personality disorders.

Access the Psychiatric Disorders SIG community (including the Psychiatric Disorders Discussion Forum and SIG Documents) here.
