Renal Genetics SIG

Mission

The Renal Genetics SIG aims to build and promote a community of genetic counselors with a specialty and/or interest in renal genetics by increasing the visibility and accessibility of GCs to the nephrology community, providers and patients.

Objectives

  • Provide access to a listserv (email) discussion group for peer consultation, networking, support, research/practice developments and other topics regarding renal genetics
  • Promote the integration of genetic counseling into nephrology practice
  • Compile, develop and distribute educational materials and resources for healthcare providers, students, patients and the public
  • Develop and implement research ideas

Student Research Grant Information

The Renal SIG was established to foster relationships between genetic counselors working in nephrology as the field continues to grow. The goals of the Renal SIG include educating genetic counselors and other medical professionals regarding the genetics of inherited kidney disease, establishing relationships between genetic counselors, nephrologists, and other allied professionals, and encouraging the production of original research within nephrology genetics.
