Background

The Journal of Genetic Counseling (JOGC) is the flagship journal of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and is the leading journal focusing exclusively on genetic counseling. JOGC is published six times per year. Peer review and overall management of the publication are performed electronically and through the JOGC editorial office, currently located at the University of California, Los Angeles. JOGC is published by Wiley.

NSGC’s mission is to advance the various roles of genetic counselors in health care by fostering education, research, and public policy to ensure the availability of quality genetic services.

Scope

The JOGC, published for NSGC, is a timely, international forum addressing all aspects of the discipline and practice of genetic counseling. The JOGC focuses on the critical questions and challenges that arise at the interface between rapid advances in genetics and technology and the impact on individuals and communities at genetic risk. The publication provides genetic counselors, other clinicians and health educators, laboratory geneticists, bioethicists, legal scholars, social scientists, and other researchers with a premier resource on genetic counseling topics in national, international, and cross-national contexts.

The main focus of the work published in the JOGC is the ethical, psychosocial and clinical aspects of genetics and genetic counseling and the implications for teaching, research and service provision.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will be genetic counselors with a strong record of published research as primary author.  Qualified candidates will have a graduate degree with training in genetic counseling. Full membership in NSGC is required. Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling, American Board of Medical Genetics or Canadian Association of Genetic Counseling is preferred.

The Editor-In-Chief must possess the energy and vision to sustain and further develop the Journal as a leading forum in genetic counseling, delivering timely and accurate information to this and related topics. Candidates should be willing to make a five (5) year commitment. It is expected that the candidate will comply with the policies of both NSGC and JOGC regarding conflict of interest guidelines, confidentiality policy, and diversity, equity and inclusion policies.

Funding is available to support the efforts of the Editor-in-Chief and their editorial team and to handle all aspects of the manuscript submission, peer review and editing process.
