As we celebrate Pride Month, the J.E.D.I. Stewardship Committee has compiled a list of resources to learn more and to support the LGBTQIA+ community. 

Resources Created By and For Genetic Counselors 

• Beyond the Binary: Gender Diversity in Genetic Counseling - 2021 NSGC webinar (one-hour recording).
• Breast and Chest Cancer Screening Options - How can breast and chest cancer screening help trans and gender diverse people protect themselves? Written by Anna Vickrey, PhD, MS, CGC.
• Empowering Our Queer Colleagues - 2022 NSGC Community Conversation (one-hour recording).
• NSGC Practice Resource-Focused Revision: Standardized Pedigree Nomenclature Update Centered on Sex and Gender Inclusivity (2022) - The Practice Guidelines Committee reclassified the recommendations for standardized pedigree nomenclature as a Practice Resource with the addition of this Focused Revision. A major focus of this publication is clarification of the use of pedigree symbols and language in the description of the distinction between sex and gender, with a view to ensuring safe and inclusive practice for people who are gender-diverse or transgender.
• Prenatal SIG Tips: Ensuring Equitable Care for Transgender and GNC Patients - Created by the NSGC Prenatal SIG, this resource includes helpful definitions around gender identity, recommendations for departmental changes to support gender minority competent care, and gender-neutral language and discussion tips to utilize in patient counseling.
• Transgender and Gender-Diverse Patients in Cancer Genetics: A Resource Toolkit - This toolkit was developed to serve as a compilation of existing resources around cancer genetics and providing inclusive and affirmative care for transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) patients. The toolkit was compiled by Hannah Pepprock, MPH Student, UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health (Sept. 2022) under the supervision of Diane R Koeller, MS, MPH, CGC and with feedback from the Cancer SIG Gender Inclusion Subcommittee.

• Gender-Affirming Care: What It Is and Why It's Necessary - A Southern Poverty Law Center Learning for Justice article.
• GLAAD Media Reference Guide - A resource list and glossary of language offering education and guidance on telling LGBTQ people’s stories.
• Guidelines for the Primary and Gender-Affirming Care of Transgender and Gender Nonbinary People - Published by the UCSF Gender Affirming Health Program in 2016; revision forthcoming in 2026.
• Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Resource Center - Browse information and advice on a range of topics, including resources from the HRC Foundation.
• Library of Congress LGBTQ+ Resources in Business and the Workplace - A guide to research materials on the issues that affect the economic circumstances of the LGBTQ+ community.
• Pronouns: A How-To - A resource developed by The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio.
• TGD CanScreen Project (Dana Farber Cancer Institute) - A decision support tool designed to help trans and gender diverse (TGD) people and their healthcare team understand how gender-affirming care impacts the risks of getting cancer and guide on cancer screenings.
• The Trevor Project Resource Center - Browse resources by topic or explore trending articles, resources and guides.
