Special Interest Group (SIG) Task Force

Overview

Matters directly and indirectly related to NSGC’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs) were noted in the 2020 Exeter Group’s Report on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Assessment of NSGC.

To this end, the NSGC Board of Directors is chartering a SIG Task Force to assess the role of SIGs within NSGC, and to develop recommendations for SIGs in supporting and furthering a climate and culture of inclusion and belonging within the larger Society, facilitating communication and connection between members.

Task Force Charges

The charges for the SIG Task Force are as follows:

  1. Landscape Assessment: Conduct a landscape assessment of the structure of SIGs and other internal communities in other professional membership organizations. Identify structures that could support NSGC’s commitment to J.E.D.I. and to organizational structure.

  2. Community Assessment: Conduct a SIG-specific community assessment within NSGC to clarify NSGC member needs from any current/potential SIG or internal community as we move forward in our efforts to promote J.E.D.I. and member engagement.
  3. Interim Report: Deliver a summary of findings from the landscape and community assessments to the NSGC Board of Directors with a target date of June 2022.
  4. Model Development: Based on landscape and community assessments and resulting purpose and objectives for SIGs, develop 2-3 potential models for SIGs within NSGC.
  5. Final Report: Based on analysis of models, deliver recommendations for SIG purpose and collective objectives, organization/structure, annual requirements, membership model, resource model, and success metrics to measure the impact of the model overtime to the NSGC Board of Directors by July 2022.
