NSGC supports the ability of genetic counselors to communicate accurate, unbiased information about the complete range of reproductive options. This includes promoting sustained access to abortion care, medical resources, and community resources for those who are pregnant, may become pregnant, give birth, or otherwise contribute to pregnancy or parenting. NSGC opposes efforts that disrupt the patient/provider relationship and efforts that impede the ability to provide or access comprehensive reproductive healthcare.
NSGC believes that access to genetic information promotes informed decision-making and is committed to supporting both those who choose abortion care and those who choose to continue a pregnancy. Restricting access to reproductive care, including abortion care, impacts marginalized groups disproportionally and stigmatizes those who need such care. Our Society is committed to supporting genetic counselors in providing comprehensive genetic counseling rooted in the aligned goals of disability justice and reproductive justice.
